Damp and mould is a common problem that if untreated can cause serious health problems to occupants and damage to properties. There can be a number of reasons for damp and mould being present in a home and that’s why we carryout thorough surveys to ensure the causes are identified and the problem fixed to ensure the health and wellbeing of the occupants and the property. We are fully compliant with Awaab’s Law and able to meet all of the requirements.
Why is mould dangerous and what causes it?
Mould is a fungus that can be found growing in damp conditions and is spread by mould spores that can contaminate surrounding areas and most worryingly can be breathed in, often resulting in serious health conditions. The route cause for mould is excessive moisture in a confined space and can be caused by a number of reasons such as leaks, rising/ penetrating damp, poor ventilation and occupant use amongst others, this is why a thorough survey is needed to find the cause before treating the symptoms.
What is involved with a Damp and Mould survey?
We can arrange for a damp and mould survey to be carried out at your home at a time to suit you. One of our trained surveyors will attend your home and carryout a thorough survey identifying areas where damp and mould is present. They will then carryout a full condition survey on the property in order to identify areas that maybe causing excessive moisture to be present, looking for rising or penetrative damp, leaks and property use. They will also look at the ventilation that is present within the property to see if it is adequate or requires upgrading.
Shortly after the survey a member of our team will be in touch with the results and will send across the findings and suggested remedial works.
What work is usually carried out?
After the survey has been carried out we will arrange for our team to call and carryout the recommended work, this will involve remedial works to any identified causes of damp. All the visible mould is removed using a professional anti-fungal mould treatment and any necessary decorating is carried out using an approved anti mould paint. Where it has been identified, upgrades are made to the ventilation within the property. This can involve upgrades to both the mechanical ventilation such as continuous extract fans and the background ventilation such as trickle vents in the windows.
